The Open
Last year, St Andrews, despite the weather, served up a thrilling climax. Spieth went so close to achieving the Slam, the amateur Paul Dunne teed up on the final day with a winning chance, but it was the praying Zach Johnson who lifted the Claret Jug.

Rory was absence, not due to any Scottish virus but rather a freak football injury.

Dustin arrives as US Open Champion having broke his duck, inspiration for Lee & Sergio or the usual Sunday putting meltdown?

Troon has been kind for the Yanks, which stats men may want to note:
1962: Arnold Palmer
1973: Tom Weiskopk
1982: Tom Watson
1989: Mark Calcavecchia
1997: Justin Leonard
2004: Todd Hamilton

USA, USA,USA!!

Should we be looking at a big Priced Yankee winner? Or will we see another Danny Willett emerge a Major winner?

My Picks:
Ricky 33/1
Shane: 50/1
Oostie: 50/1
Jimmy Walker: 150/1

Certainty: RAIN.

Let’s hope they get it finished on the Sunday this time.

Re: The Open
I like Phil even in the Ryder Cup.

The likes of Patrick Reed however can be buried alive in a bunker!

Ryder Cup is gonna be lovely without the Tiger wankfest again.

`Phil has kopped a bit of stick on here before by some and not just for the Wason Incident, pretty sure it was the usual 'I'm ITK and he's a proper cunt' type of thing.. `

I thought everyone on here likes Big Phil... well until it's time for the Ryder Cup that is when everyone on WHO goes a bit rabid and acts like a dribbling spastic...

from the Sporting Life website..............

Jack Nicklaus says the final-round battle between Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson for the Open Championship was better than the famous 1977 "Duel in the Sun."

Stenson and Mickelson evoked memories of the epic contest between Nicklaus and Tom Watson at Turnberry 39 years ago as they went head to head over the final 36 holes at Royal Troon at the weekend.

A closing 63 equalled the lowest score recorded in a major and gave Stenson his first major title with a record-equalling total of 20 under par, while his 72-hole total of 264 eclipsed the previous best in any major by a shot.

Five-time major winner Mickelson, who beat Stenson to lift the Claret Jug at Muirfield in 2013, had to settle for second despite a flawless 65.

"I was fortunate to watch every second of today's final round of the Open Championship and I thought it was fantastic," 18-time major champion Nicklaus said on Twitter.

"Phil Mickelson played one of the best rounds I have ever seen played in the Open and Henrik Stenson just played better - he played one of the greatest rounds I have ever seen.

"Phil certainly has nothing to be ashamed of because he played wonderfully. Henrik played well from beginning to end. He drove the ball well, his iron game was great, his short game was wonderful and his putting was great. Henrik was simply terrific.

"To win your first major championship is something special in and of itself, but to do it in the fashion Henrik did it in makes for something very special and incredibly memorable. I'm proud of and happy for Henrik.

"Some in the media have already tried to compare today's final round to 1977 at Turnberry, with Tom Watson and me in what they called the "Duel in the Sun."

"I thought we played great and had a wonderful match. On that day, Tom got me, 65-66. Our final round was really good, but theirs was even better."

Re: The Open
I've said it before but I'm not sure there is anything better in sport than an exciting last day at a Golf major. Looked like Phil had accepted his fate 3 out as had a look of acceptance and grin on his chevy that said 'this just aint meant to be, I've gave it my best shot, but this fella just aint going away'

Phil has kopped a bit of stick on here before by some and not just for the Wason Incident, pretty sure it was the usual 'I'm ITK and he's a proper cunt' type of thing..

Re: The Open
Pulsating golf between those two yesterday and as you say Mick was gracious in defeat.

Chuffed for Tyrrell Hatton, he plays at my local club, finished 2nd in the Scottish Open last weekend and joint 5th in the Open this weekend.

Just earnt himself best part of £500k + over the last 2 weekends. Not bad for a 24 yr old.

One to watch for the future.

Re: The Open
A lot of sportsman could do worse than learn from the way dignified way Phil acted after losing that.

All about respect for the winner and keeping his disappointment to himself until away from the cameras.

Good man is Phil and helped contribute to a fantastic days golf.

Incredible stat that Happy.

That was simply the best afternoons sporting entertainment in a long time, Faldo-Norman, and as Miike pointed out Jacks last win can only rank with that, superb.

Re: The Open
Spare a thought for Phil.
His 17 under total would have have won 140 of the previous 144

Re: The Open

Mickelson would have had to shoot a 62 just to get a play-off!

Re: The Open
best final round I can remember, maybe Nicklaus when he won the Masters at 46 was better but 63 to win the Open is hard to beat

Fuck me, that Ewen Murray is a boring cunt of a commentator. Ruins every tournament for me.
Stenson is a good player, but he's dull as ditchwater.
